The 3 kits I ordered all came in great shape. I started on this one and was impressed with the paint quality and brushes. All around great experience. I definitely will order more from here given the results.
This is my first purchase from Craftoria. I didn't realize they are shipped from China, so it took a bit of time to the US. I've done many PBN's purchased at low prices and varying qualities elsewhere. I gave this a try and found they send REALLY QUALITY PRODUCT. I'll detail more below on that, but I'll get to the point on this picture.
36 colors (definitely the way to go vs. 24. 4 may not be worth it). 36 Gives a good bit of definition (see photos).
I've included some interim photos. I DID MODIFY THE BOAT myself some to be more like the actual photo.
Paints are a very good quality. You will always face some that are transparent in certain colors. That's the pigment and not necessarily the quailty of paint. Oranges, yellows, and some similar and sometimes some darks may need multiple layers.
I put mine on a 16x20inch frame. It was just shy of those dimensions but easy to paint out a tad further at the edges to cover it completely. I do wish there was even more blank canvas at the edges to make it a little easier to stretch the canvas on a frame...even a 1/4 inch would be better on a basic 1/2" frame. However, this canvas is a good quality without ragged edges.
There is already a layer of canvas prep on this one making it thicker and heavier than many cheap ones. I DO RECOMMEND if you know acrylics and canvases that you go ahead and get some clear gesso to paint first. Otherwise, you need extra patience and a magnifier to make sure you get the paint in the "holes" in the weave. Even with theirs canvas prep, this shows up. You can overcome it with extra time and patience and a magnifier when painting. I tried it thinking it would be better than others I've done, but it took that time. I'm gessoing my next one (I ordered many).
These spaces are SMALL on detailed pictures. If you don't enjoy that challenge, it may not be for you. It's worth it in the end, however, if you really like the picture.
I DO RECOMMEND that Craftoria include TWO #6 paints (orange shade) used a lot in the 36 shade canvas as it takes multiple layers to hide numbers and lines.
I did NOT run out of paint. All was very good. This one gets very low, and depending on use can dry/clump a bit just due to the type of paint and color.
My only "complaint" is that when computers convert these pictures to PBN, there are some well-defined lines areas that do NOT get defined but rather blurred into the overall picture. These are some details that would be better to include such as the tree lines along the water line and reflection. Also, the greenery in the original photo ends up blurred within the dark shade (see final painting). That too could better rather than what amounts to two shades of black (black and a dark blue you only know is blue because it's a transparent paint that needs two layers). If you enjoy doing your own painting anyhow, you cold add some of this. I did a little modification in some areas for my own satisfaction, but I find I don't want to do a lot on these. I save that for original work.
Actual colors are alway a little darker than photos appear, but if you choose pictures like I do then you will enjoy this one hanging up whether close or at a distance.
